Abu Ja'far al-Mada'ini narrated to us, Abbad ibn al-Awwam informed us, from Sa'id ibn Iyas, from Abu al-Ward, from Abu Muhammad al-Hadrami, from Abu Ayyub al-Ansari, who said: When the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, arrived in Medina, he stayed with me, and he said to me: O Abu Ayyub, shall I not teach you something? I said: Yes indeed, O Messenger of Allah. He said: There is no servant who says, when he rises in the morning: There is no god but Allah alone, with no partner, His is the dominion and His is the praise — except that Allah records for him ten good deeds thereby, and erases from him ten bad deeds, and it is for him with Allah the equivalent of freeing ten slaves, and he is in a shield against Satan until evening — and likewise for the one who says it in the evening. He said: So I said to Abu Muhammad: Did you hear this from Abu Ayyub yourself? He said: By Allah, yes, I heard it from Abu Ayyub relating it from the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him.
