حَدَّثَنَا أَسْوَدُ بْنُ عَامِرٍ حَدَّثَنَا شُعْبَةُ عَنْ قَتَادَةَ عَنْ أَبِي نَضْرَةَ عَنْ قَيْسٍ قَالَ قُلْتُ لِعَمَّارٍ أَرَأَيْتُمْ صَنِيعَكُمْ هَذَا الَّذِي صَنَعْتُمْ فِيمَا كَانَ مِنْ أَمْرِ عَلِيٍّ رَأْيًا رَأَيْتُمُوهُ أَمْ شَيْئًا عَهِدَ إِلَيْكُمْ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ فَقَالَ لَمْ يَعْهَدْ إِلَيْنَا رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ شَيْئًا لَمْ يَعْهَدْهُ إِلَى النَّاسِ كَافَّةً وَلَكِنَّ حُذَيْفَةَ أَخْبَرَنِي عَنْ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ قَالَ فِي أَصْحَابِي اثْنَا عَشَرَ مُنَافِقًا مِنْهُمْ ثَمَانِيَةٌ لَا يَدْخُلُونَ الْجَنَّةَ حَتَّى يَلِجَ الْجَمَلُ فِي سَمِّ الْخِيَاطِ.

Aswad b. 'Amir told us, Shu'bah told us, from Qatadah, from Abu Nadrah, from Qays, he said: I said to 'Ammar: "Do you think what you did in the matter of 'Ali was an opinion you formed yourselves, or something the Messenger of God (peace and blessings be upon him) entrusted to you?" He said: "The Messenger of God (peace and blessings be upon him) did not entrust to us anything he did not entrust to people in general; but Hudhayfah informed me, from the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), that he said: 'Among my Companions are twelve hypocrites, eight of whom will not enter Paradise until a camel passes through the eye of a needle.'"
