Abu Mu'awiyah told us, al-A'mash told us, from Zayd b. Wahb, from Hudhayfah, he said: The Messenger of God (peace and blessings be upon him) related to us two hadiths; I have seen one of them and I am waiting for the other. He told us that trust descended into the very roots of men's hearts, then the Qur'an was revealed, and they learned from the Qur'an and learned from the Sunnah. Then he told us about the removal of trust; he said: "A man sleeps a sleep, and trust is taken from his heart, so its trace remains like the trace of a faint mark; then he sleeps again, and trust is taken from his heart, so its trace remains like the trace of a blister, like an ember you roll on your foot - you see it swollen but there is nothing in it." He said: Then he took some pebbles and rolled them on his foot. He said: "So people will come to trade with one another, and scarcely anyone will fulfill a trust, until it will be said: 'In such-and-such tribe there is a trustworthy man,' until it will be said of a man: 'How strong he is, how clever, how intelligent!' - while there is not a mustard-seed's weight of faith in his heart. There has indeed come upon me a time when I did not care which of you I did business with - if he were a Muslim, his religion would return it to me, and if he were a Christian or a Jew, his overseer would return it to me; but today I would not do business with any of you except so-and-so and so-and-so." Waki' told us, al-A'mash told us, from Zayd b. Wahb, from Hudhayfah, he said: The Messenger of God (peace and blessings be upon him) related to us two hadiths; I have seen one of them and I am waiting for the other - and he mentioned its meaning. Muhammad b. Ja'far told us, Shu'bah told us, from Sulayman, he said: I heard Zayd b. Wahb relating from Hudhayfah, he said: The Messenger of God (peace and blessings be upon him) related to us two hadiths - and he mentioned the hadith.
