Abu Qatan told us: Yunus told us, from al-Mughira ibn Abdullah: My father told me, who said: I went out one morning on an errand, and there was a group of people in the market. I turned toward them, and there was a man describing to them the description of the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, and his features. I came upon him on the main road between Arafat and Mina, and he appeared to me among a group of riders, and I recognized him by the description. A man called out to me, "O rider, keep the front of the mounts clear!" The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said: Leave the rider alone, he has some need. I came forward and took hold of the she-camel's rein or halter, and said, "O Messenger of Allah, tell me of a deed that will bring me close to Paradise and take me far from the Fire." He said: Does that concern you, or does it burden you? I said, "Yes." He said: Then understand, or grasp this: worship Allah, associating nothing with Him; establish the prayer; give the zakat; fast Ramadan; make pilgrimage to the House; and do to people what you would love to be done to you, and dislike for people what you dislike to be done to you - now release the she-camel's rein or halter. Abu Qatan said: I asked him, "Did you hear it from him, or did you hear it from al-Mughira?" He said, "Yes."
