Ya'qub told us, my father told us, from Ibn Ishaq: Ubadah ibn al-Walid ibn Ubadah ibn al-Samit told me, from his father al-Walid, from his grandfather Ubadah ibn al-Samit - who was one of the chieftains - who said: We pledged allegiance to the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, the pledge of war, and Ubadah was one of the twelve who pledged allegiance at the First Aqabah on the pledge of the women: to hear and obey in our hardship and our ease, our willingness and our reluctance, and not to dispute authority with those entitled to it, and to speak the truth wherever we were, not fearing for the sake of Allah the blame of any blamer.
