حَدَّثَنَا يَزِيدُ بْنُ هَارُونَ وَأَبُو النَّضْرِ قَالَا حَدَّثَنَا ابْنُ أَبِي ذِئْبٍ عَنْ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ قَيْسٍ عَنْ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنِ مُعَاوِيَةَ عَنْ ثَوْبَانَ مَوْلَى رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ قَالَ قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ مَنْ يَتَقَبَّلُ لِي بِوَاحِدَةٍ أَتَقَبَّلُ لَهُ بِالْجَنَّةِ قَالَ قُلْتُ أَنَا يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ قَالَ لَا تَسْأَلْ النَّاسَ شَيْئًا قَالَ فَرُبَّمَا سَقَطَ سَوْطُ ثَوْبَانَ وَهُوَ عَلَى بَعِيرِهِ فَمَا يَسْأَلُ أَحَدًا أَنْ يُنَاوِلَهُ حَتَّى يَنْزِلَ إِلَيْهِ فَيَأْخُذَهُ حَدَّثَنَا يَزِيدُ أَخْبَرَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ إِسْحَاقَ عَنِ الْعَبَّاسِ بْنِ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنِ مِينَاءَ عَنْ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنِ يَزِيدَ بْنِ مُعَاوِيَةَ عَنْ ثَوْبَانَ قَالَ قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ مَنْ يَضْمَنُ لِي خُلَّةً وَأَضْمَنُ لَهُ الْجَنَّةَ فَذَكَرَ مَعْنَاهُ.

Yazid ibn Harun and Abu al-Nadr narrated to us, they said: Ibn Abi Dhi'b narrated to us, from Muhammad ibn Qays, from 'Abd al-Rahman ibn Mu'awiyah, from Thawban, the freed slave of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him), who said: The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said: "Who will guarantee me one thing and I will guarantee him Paradise?" I said: "I will, O Messenger of Allah." He said: "Do not ask people for anything." He said: Sometimes Thawban's whip would fall while he was on his camel, and he would not ask anyone to hand it to him until he dismounted and picked it up himself. Yazid narrated to us, Muhammad ibn Ishaq informed us, from al-'Abbas ibn 'Abd al-Rahman ibn Mina', from 'Abd al-Rahman ibn Yazid ibn Mu'awiyah, from Thawban, who said: The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said: "Who will guarantee me one quality and I will guarantee him Paradise?" — and he mentioned its meaning.
