حَدَّثَنَا عَلِيُّ بْنُ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ جَعْفَرٍ حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ الْمَلِكِ بْنُ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ عُثْمَانَ حَدَّثَنَا يَزِيدُ بْنُ زُرَيْعٍ عَنْ سَعِيدِ بْنِ أَبِي عَرُوبَةَ عَنْ قَتَادَةَ عَنْ سَالِمِ بْنِ أَبِي الْجَعْدِ عَنْ مَعْدَانَ بْنِ أَبِي طَلْحَةَ عَنْ ثَوْبَانَ عَنْ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ قَالَ مَنْ سَأَلَ مَسْأَلَةً وَهُوَ عَنْهَا غَنِيٌّ كَانَتْ شَيْئًا فِي وَجْهِهِ يَوْمَ الْقِيَامَةِ.

'Ali ibn 'Abdullah ibn Ja'far narrated to us, 'Abd al-Malik ibn 'Abdullah ibn 'Uthman narrated to us, Yazid ibn Zuray' narrated to us, from Sa'id ibn Abi 'Arubah, from Qatadah, from Salim ibn Abi al-Ja'd, from Ma'dan ibn Abi Talhah, from Thawban, from the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him), who said: "Whoever asks for something while he is self-sufficient, it will be a blemish on his face on the Day of Resurrection."
