Ibn Mahdi told us, from Mu'awiyah -- meaning Ibn Salih -- from Amir ibn Jashib, from Khalid ibn Ma'dan, who said: We attended a banquet given by Abd al-A'la ibn Hilal, and when we had finished the meal, Abu Umamah stood up and said: "I have stood up in this place of mine, though I am no orator, and I do not intend to give a sermon; but I heard the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, say, at the conclusion of a meal: 'Praise be to Allah, abundant, good, and blessed praise, not sufficed without, not bid farewell, and not dispensed with.'" He said: He kept repeating them to us until we memorized them.
