Muhammad ibn Ja'far told us, Shu'bah ibn al-Hajjaj told us, from Qatadah, from Shahr ibn Hawshab, from Abu Umamah al-Himsi, who said: The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said: "Ablution expiates what came before it, then the prayer becomes supererogatory." He said: It was said to him, "Did you hear this from the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him?" He said: "Yes, not once, nor twice, nor three times, nor four, nor five."
