Bahz told us, Hammad b. Salamah told us, Sa'id b. Jumhan told us; and 'Abd al-Samad — Sa'id b. Jumhan told me — from Safinah, who said: I heard the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, say: "The Caliphate is thirty years, then after that there will be kingship." Safinah said: Count the caliphate of Abu Bakr, may Allah be pleased with him, as two years; the caliphate of 'Umar, may Allah be pleased with him, as ten years; the caliphate of 'Uthman, may Allah be pleased with him, as twelve years; and the caliphate of 'Ali, may Allah be pleased with him, as six years.
