Yahya told us, from Abd al-Malik, Ata' told us, from Usamah ibn Zayd, that he and the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, entered the House, and he ordered Bilal to shut the door - the House at that time had six pillars - and he proceeded until he reached the two pillars nearest the door, the door of the Ka'bah, and sat there, praising Allah and extolling Him, asking Him and seeking His forgiveness. Then he stood up until he reached the part facing the back of the Ka'bah, and placed his face and his body against the Ka'bah, praising Allah and extolling Him, asking Him and seeking His forgiveness. Then he went around until he reached every corner of the House, facing each with takbir, tahlil, tasbih, praise of Allah, Mighty and Majestic, seeking forgiveness, and supplication. Then he went out and prayed two rak'ahs outside the House, facing the front of the Ka'bah. Then he turned and said: This is the qiblah, this is the qiblah.
