Isma'il narrated to us: al-Jurayri narrated to us, from Abu al-Ala' ibn ash-Shikhkhir, from Ibn al-Ahmasi, who said: I met Abu Dharr and said to him: "It has reached me about you that you relate a certain hadith from the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him." He said: "Indeed, do not think that I would lie about the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, after having heard it from him. So what has reached you about me?" I said: "It has reached me that you say: 'There are three whom Allah loves, and three whom Allah, Mighty and Majestic is He, detests.'" He said: "And you have heard it [correctly]." I said: "Then who are these whom Allah loves?" He said: "A man who meets the enemy amid a group and exposes his throat to them until he is killed or victory is granted to his companions; a group of people traveling by night whose journey grows long until they long to touch the ground, so they dismount, and one of them withdraws and prays until he wakes them for their departure; and a man who has a neighbor who harms him with his neighborliness, yet he bears patiently with the harm until death or moving away separates them." I said: "And who are those whom Allah detests?" He said: "The merchant who swears excessively" -- or he said "the seller who swears excessively" -- "the miser who reminds others of his favors, and the poor man who is arrogant."
