Waki' narrated to us, from Sufyan, from Abu Ishaq, from Abdullah ibn Abi Basir, from Ubayy ibn Ka'b, who said: The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, prayed the dawn prayer, and when he had prayed he said: "Is so-and-so present?" The people fell silent; they said "yes" though he had not attended. The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said: "The heaviest prayers upon the hypocrites are the night prayer and the dawn prayer. If they knew what is in them, they would come to them even if they had to crawl. And the first row is like the row of the angels; if you knew its merit, you would race to it. Your prayer with two men is more pure than your prayer with one man, and your prayer with one man is more pure than your prayer alone, and whatever is more numerous is more beloved to Allah, Exalted is He." My father said: Waki' said "Abdullah ibn Abi Basir al-Anazi." Abdullah narrated to us: Muhammad ibn Abi Bakr al-Muqaddami narrated to us: Khalid ibn al-Harith narrated to us: Shu'bah narrated to us, from Abu Ishaq, from Abdullah ibn Abi Basir, from his father -- Abu Ishaq said: I heard it from him and from his father -- he said: I heard Ubayy ibn Ka'b say: The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, prayed the dawn prayer one day -- and he mentioned the hadith. Abdullah narrated to us: Abu Bakr Muhammad ibn Abdullah ibn Ja'far narrated to us: Abu Awn az-Ziyadi narrated to us: Abd al-Wahid -- meaning Ibn Ziyad -- narrated to us, from al-A'mash, from Abu Ishaq, from Abdullah ibn Abi Basir, from his father, from Ubayy ibn Ka'b, from the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him -- and he mentioned the hadith. Abu Kamil Muzaffar ibn Mudrik narrated to us: Zuhayr narrated to us: Abu Ishaq narrated to us, from Abdullah ibn Abi Basir, from his father, who said: I came to Medina and met Ubayy ibn Ka'b, and I said: "Abu al-Mundhir, tell me the most wondrous hadith you heard from the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him." He said: The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, led us -- or prayed for us -- the morning prayer, then turned his face to us and said: "Is so-and-so present?" -- and he mentioned the hadith. Abdullah narrated to us: Yahya ibn Abdullah, the freedman of Banu Hashim, narrated to us: Zuhayr narrated to us, from Abu Ishaq, from Abdullah ibn Abi Basir, from his father, who said: I came to Medina and met Ubayy ibn Ka'b -- and he mentioned the like of that. Abdullah narrated to us: Shayban ibn Abi Shaybah narrated to us: Jarir ibn Hazim narrated to us: Abu Ishaq narrated to us, from Abu Basir al-Abdi, from Ubayy ibn Ka'b, who said: The Prophet of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, prayed the morning prayer, then said: "Is so-and-so present?" -- and he mentioned the hadith.
