Ubaydullah ibn Umar al-Qawariri narrated to me: Salm ibn Qutaybah narrated to us: Shu'bah narrated to us, from Asim ibn Bahdalah, from Zirr, from Ubayy ibn Ka'b, who said: The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said to me: "Indeed, Allah, Blessed and Exalted, commanded me to recite to you." He said: So he recited to me: "Those who disbelieved among the People of the Book and the polytheists were not to be parted from disbelief until there came to them the clear evidence — a messenger from Allah reciting purified scriptures, containing therein upright writings. And those who were given the Book did not become divided except after the clear evidence came to them." "Indeed the religion in the sight of Allah is pure monotheism, not polytheism, nor Judaism, nor Christianity, and whoever does good will never be denied its reward." Shu'bah said: Then he recited verses after it, then he recited: "If the son of Adam had two valleys of wealth, he would seek a third valley, and nothing fills the belly of the son of Adam except dust." He said: Then he concluded it with what remained of it.
