حَدَّثَنَا وَكِيعٌ عَنْ الْمَسْعُودِيِّ عَنْ سِمَاكٍ عَنْ جَابِرِ بْنِ سَمُرَةَ قَالَ جَاءَ مَاعِزُ بْنُ مَالِكٍ إِلَى النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ فَاعْتَرَفَ عِنْدَهُ بِالزِّنَا قَالَ فَحَوَّلَ وَجْهَهُ قَالَ فَجَاءَ فَاعْتَرَفَ مِرَارًا فَأَمَرَ بِرَجْمِهِ فَرُجِمَ ثُمَّ أُتِيَ فَأُخْبِرَ فَقَامَ فَحَمِدَ اللَّهَ تَعَالَى وَأَثْنَى عَلَيْهِ ثُمَّ قَالَ مَا بَالُ رِجَالٍ كُلَّمَا نَفَرْنَا فِي سَبِيلِ اللَّهِ تَبَارَكَ وَتَعَالَى تَخَلَّفَ عِنْدَهُنَّ أَحَدُهُمْ لَهُ نَبِيبٌ كَنَبِيبِ التَّيْسِ يَمْنَحُ إِحْدَاهُنَّ الْكُثْبَةَ لَئِنْ أَمْكَنَنِي اللَّهُ عَزَّ وَجَلَّ مِنْهُمْ لَأَجْعَلَنَّهُمْ نَكَالًا حَدَّثَنَا عَبْد اللَّهِ حَدَّثَنَا إِبْرَاهِيمُ بْنُ الْحَجَّاجِ حَدَّثَنَا حَمَّادُ بْنُ سَلَمَةَ عَنْ سِمَاكٍ عَنْ جَعْفَرِ بْنِ أَبِي ثَوْرٍ عَنْ جَابِرِ بْنِ سَمُرَةَ جَدِّهِ أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ أَوْ رَجُلًا قَالَ يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ أَتَوَضَّأُ مِنْ لُحُومِ الْغَنَمِ قَالَ فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ إِنْ شِئْتَ فَذَكَرَ الْحَدِيثَ حَدَّثَنَا عَبْد اللَّهِ قَالَ سَمِعْت حَجَّاجَ بْنَ الشَّاعِرِ يَسْأَلُ أَبِي فَقَالَ أَيُّمَا أَحَبُّ إِلَيْكَ عَمْرٌو النَّاقِدُ أَوْ الْمُعَيْطِيُّ فَقَالَ كَانَ عُمَرٌو النَّاقِدُ يَتَحَرَّى الصِّدْقَ.

Waki' narrated to us from al-Mas'udi, from Simak, from Jabir ibn Samurah, who said: Ma'iz ibn Malik came to the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, and confessed before him to adultery. He turned his face away. Then he came and confessed several times, so he ordered him stoned, and he was stoned. Then it was reported to him, so he stood, praised Allah, Exalted is He, and extolled Him, then said: "What is wrong with men who, whenever we go forth in the path of Allah, Blessed and Exalted, one of them stays behind with these women, bleating like a billy-goat in rut, giving one of them a small measure of milk? If Allah, Mighty and Majestic, enables me against them, I will surely make them an example." Abdullah narrated to us: Ibrahim ibn al-Hajjaj narrated to us: Hammad ibn Salamah narrated to us from Simak, from Ja'far ibn Abi Thawr, from Jabir ibn Samurah, his grandfather, that the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him - or a man - said, "O Messenger of Allah, should I perform ablution from sheep meat?" The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said: "If you wish" - and he related the rest of the hadith. Abdullah narrated to us: I heard Hajjaj ibn al-Sha'ir ask my father, saying, "Which is more beloved to you, Amr al-Naqid or al-Mu'ayti?" He said: "Amr al-Naqid pursued truthfulness."
