حَدَّثَنَا بَهْزٌ حَدَّثَنَا سُلَيْمَانُ بْنُ الْمُغِيرَةِ حَدَّثَنَا حُمَيْدٌ يَعْنِي ابْنَ هِلَالٍ عَنْ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ الصَّامِتِ قَالَ أَرَادَ زِيَادٌ أَنْ يَبْعَثَ عِمْرَانَ بْنَ حُصَيْنٍ عَلَى خُرَاسَانَ فَأَبَى عَلَيْهِمْ فَقَالَ لَهُ أَصْحَابُهُ أَتَرَكْتَ خُرَاسَانَ أَنْ تَكُونَ عَلَيْهَا قَالَ فَقَالَ إِنِّي وَاللَّهِ مَا يَسُرُّنِي أَنْ أُصَلِّيَ بِحَرِّهَا وَتُصَلُّونَ بِبَرْدِهَا إِنِّي أَخَافُ إِذَا كُنْتُ فِي نُحُورِ الْعَدُوِّ أَنْ يَأْتِيَنِي كِتَابٌ مِنْ زِيَادٍ فَإِنْ أَنَا مَضَيْتُ هَلَكْتُ وَإِنْ رَجَعْتُ ضُرِبَتْ عُنُقِي قَالَ فَأَرَادَ الْحَكَمَ بْنَ عَمْرٍو الْغِفَارِيَّ عَلَيْهَا قَالَ فَانْقَادَ لِأَمْرِهِ قَالَ فَقَالَ عِمْرَانُ أَلَا أَحَدٌ يَدْعُو لِي الْحَكَمَ قَالَ فَانْطَلَقَ الرَّسُولُ قَالَ فَأَقْبَلَ الْحَكَمُ إِلَيْهِ قَالَ فَدَخَلَ عَلَيْهِ قَالَ فَقَالَ عِمْرَانُ لِلْحَكَمِ أَسَمِعْتَ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ يَقُولُ لَا طَاعَةَ لِأَحَدٍ فِي مَعْصِيَةِ اللَّهِ تَبَارَكَ وَتَعَالَى قَالَ نَعَمْ فَقَالَ عِمْرَانُ لِلَّهِ الْحَمْدُ أَوْ اللَّهُ أَكْبَرُ.

Bahz told us, Sulayman ibn al-Mughira told us, Humayd -- meaning Ibn Hilal -- told us, from 'Abdullah ibn al-Samit, who said: Ziyad wanted to send 'Imran ibn Husayn to Khorasan, but he refused. His companions said to him, "Would you give up Khorasan, that you should be its governor?" He said, "By Allah, it would not please me to pray in its heat while you pray in its cold. I fear that, if I were on the front lines facing the enemy, a letter would come to me from Ziyad; if I went forward, I would perish, and if I retreated, my neck would be struck." So he wanted al-Hakam ibn 'Amr al-Ghifari instead, and he submitted to the order. 'Imran said, "Will no one call al-Hakam for me?" So the messenger went, and al-Hakam came to him and entered upon him. 'Imran said to al-Hakam, "Did you hear the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, say, 'There is no obedience to anyone in disobedience to Allah, Blessed and Exalted'?" He said, "Yes." 'Imran said, "Praise be to Allah," or "Allahu Akbar."
