Affan told us, Hammam told us, from Qatadah, from al-Hasan, from Samurah, that the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, said: The two parties to a sale have the option (to cancel) as long as they have not separated, and each of them may take from the sale what he is satisfied with. Affan told us, Abu Awanah told us, al-Aswad ibn Qays told us, from Tha'labah ibn Abbad, from Samurah ibn Jundub, who said: He stood one day delivering a sermon and mentioned in his sermon a hadith. He said: While I and a young man from the Ansar were shooting arrows at two targets of ours in the time of the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, the sun rose and appeared in the eye of the observer at the height of two spear-lengths — and he continued the hadith — then he said, 'To proceed,' and he said, then he closed the tips of his fingers, then he said, or he stood — I am uncertain again another time, though I had memorized what he said — he said: he did not put forward a word from its place nor delay anything. Abu Awanah said, 'While I and a young man from the Ansar,' and he also said, 'it turned black until it became' — and Abu Awanah said 'zuwul' but 'zuwul' is more correct. Khalaf ibn Hisham and Abd al-Wahid ibn Ghiyath told us, they said: Abu Awanah told us, from al-Aswad ibn Qays, from Tha'labah, from Samurah, from the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, the like of it.
