Yahya ibn Sa’id narrated to us, from Hisham: Qatadah narrated to us, from Salim ibn Abi al-Ja’d, from Ma’dan ibn Abi Talhah, from Abu Najih al-Sulami, who said: We besieged, along with the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, the fortress of al-Ta’if — or the castle of al-Ta’if — and he said, "Whoever’s arrow reaches the enemy in the way of Allah, Mighty and Sublime, will have a rank in Paradise." So I reached that day sixteen arrows. "And whoever shoots an arrow in the way of Allah, Mighty and Sublime, it is for him the equivalent of freeing a slave; and whoever is afflicted with gray hair in the way of Allah, Mighty and Sublime, it will be a light for him on the Day of Resurrection; and whatever man frees a Muslim man, Allah, Mighty and Sublime, will make every bone of the freed man a shield for a bone of the one who freed him, from the Fire; and whatever Muslim woman frees a Muslim woman, Allah, Mighty and Sublime, will make every bone of the freed woman a shield for a bone of the one who freed her, from the Fire." Abd al-Wahhab narrated to us, from Sa’id, from Qatadah, from Salim ibn Abi al-Ja’d al-Ghatafani, from Ma’dan ibn Abi Talhah al-Ya’muri, from Abu Najih al-Sulami, who said: We besieged, along with the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, the fortress of al-Ta’if, and I heard the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, say, "Whoever shoots an arrow in the way of Allah and it reaches the enemy will have a rank in Paradise." A man said, "O Prophet of Allah, if I shoot and it reaches, will I have a rank in Paradise?" So he shot, and it reached. I reached that day sixteen arrows. And he related the same meaning.
