Abdullah ibn Muhammad ibn Abi Shayba told us - Abdullah said: and I myself heard it from Ibn Abi Shayba - who said: Abdullah ibn Idris told us, from Isma'il ibn Abi Khalid, from Qays ibn Abi Hazim, from Jarir, who said: The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, sent me to Yemen, and I met there two men, Dhu Kala' and Dhu Amr. He said: I informed them of some news about the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him. He said: Then we set out, and a caravan appeared to us coming from the direction of Medina. He said: We asked them, "What is the news?" He said: They said, "The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, has passed away, and Abu Bakr, may Allah be pleased with him, has been made caliph, and the people are in good order." He said: He said to me, "Inform your companion." He said: So the two of them returned. Then I met Dhu Amr again, and he said to me, "O Jarir, you will remain in good condition as long as, when a ruler dies, you appoint another in his place; but if it comes to the sword, you will be angered like the anger of kings and be pleased like the pleasure of kings."
