Abu Nu'aym told us: Mis'ar told us, from Ibrahim al-Saksaki, from Ibn Abi Awfa, who said: A man came to the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, and said, "I am unable to take anything from the Qur'an, so teach me something that will suffice me instead of the Qur'an." He said, "Say: Glory be to Allah, and praise be to Allah, and there is no god but Allah, and Allah is greatest, and there is no power and no strength except with Allah." He said: the man went, or stood up, or something like that, and said, "This is for Allah, Mighty and Majestic - what is for me?" He said, "Say: O Allah, forgive me, have mercy on me, grant me well-being, and guide me, and provide for me" - or "provide for me, and guide me, and grant me well-being." Mis'ar said: and sometimes I would ask about part of it from Abu Khalid, meaning al-Dalani.
