Abu Ahmad al-Zubayri told us, Sufyan told us from al-Jurayri from Abu Uthman from Hanzala, who said: We were with the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, and we mentioned Paradise and the Fire until they became almost as if seen with the eye. Then I got up and went to my family, and I laughed and played with my family and children, and I remembered the state I had been in with the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him. So I went out and met Abu Bakr, and I said: "O Abu Bakr, Hanzala has become a hypocrite!" He said: "What is that?" I said: "We were with the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, and we mentioned Paradise and the Fire until they became almost as if seen with the eye, then I went to my family and laughed and played with my children and family." He said: "Indeed, we do that too." So I went to the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, and mentioned that to him, and he said: "O Hanzala, if you were to remain in the state you are in with me, when in your houses, the angels would shake hands with you, upon your beds and in the roads. O Hanzala, [there is] a time and a time."
