Muhammad bin Ja'far told us: Shu'bah told us, from Abu Mas'ud - meaning al-Jurayri - from Yazid bin Abdullah bin al-Shikhkhir, from Ma'iz, from the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, that he was asked: Which deeds are best? He said: "Faith in Allah alone, then jihad, then an accepted pilgrimage, which excels over all other deeds as much as the distance between the rising of the sun and its setting." Hudbah bin Khalid told us: Wuhayb bin Khalid told us, from al-Jurayri, from Hayyan bin Umayr: Ma'iz told us that the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, was asked which deeds are best, and he mentioned something similar.
