حَدَّثَنَا سُفْيَانُ عَنْ مُجَالِدٍ حَدَّثَنَا الشَّعْبِيُّ سَمِعَهُ مِنَ النُّعْمَانِ بْنِ بَشِيرٍ سَمِعْتُ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ وَكُنْتُ إِذَا سَمِعْتُهُ يَقُولُ سَمِعْتُ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ظَنَنْتُ أَنْ لَا أَسْمَعَ أَحَدًا عَلَى الْمِنْبَرِ يَقُولُ سَمِعْتُ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ يَقُولُ إِنَّ فِي الْإِنْسَانِ مُضْغَةً إِذَا سَلِمَتْ وَصَحَّتْ سَلِمَ سَائِرُ الْجَسَدِ وَصَحَّ وَإِذَا سَقِمَتْ سَقِمَ سَائِرُ الْجَسَدِ وَفَسَدَ أَلَا وَهِيَ الْقَلْبُ.

Sufyan told us, from Mujalid: al-Sha'bi told us, who heard it from al-Nu'man b. Bashir: I heard the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him - and whenever I heard him say "I heard the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him," I thought I would not hear anyone else on the pulpit say "I heard the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him" say: "Indeed in the human body there is a piece of flesh: if it is sound and healthy, the rest of the body is sound and healthy, and if it is diseased, the rest of the body is diseased and corrupted. It is the heart."
