Muhammad ibn Ja'far narrated to us: Shu'bah narrated to us, from al-Hakam, from Dharr, from Ibn Abdur-Rahman ibn Abza, from his father, that a man came to Umar and said: I have become junub and could not find water. Umar said: Do not pray. Ammar said: Do you not remember, O Commander of the Believers, when you and I were on a military expedition and became junub and could not find water - as for you, you did not pray, but as for me, I rolled in the dust and prayed. When we came to the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, and I mentioned that to him, he said: It would only have sufficed you - and the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, struck the ground with his hand, then blew on it, and wiped with it his face and his palms. Muhammad ibn Ja'far narrated to us: Shu'bah narrated to us, from Salamah ibn Kuhayl, from Dharr, from Ibn Abdur-Rahman ibn Abza, from his father, that a man came to Umar - and Ibn Ja'far mentioned the like of al-Hakam's hadith, and added: and Salamah was uncertain, saying: I do not know whether it said up to the elbows or up to the palms - and Umar said: Yes, we will hold you responsible for what you have taken upon yourself.
