It was narrated to us by Muhammad ibn Ja'far, it was narrated to us by Shu'bah, from Mansur, from Salim ibn Abi al-Ja'd, from Murrah ibn Ka'b or Ka'b ibn Murrah al-Sulami. Shu'bah said: Mansur had narrated it to me and mentioned three narrators between himself and Murrah ibn Ka'b, then afterward he said: from Mansur, from Salim, from Murrah or from Ka'b, who said: I asked the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him), "Which part of the night is most heard (that is, when supplication is most readily answered)?" He said: "The depths of the latter part of the night." Then he said: "Prayer is accepted until you pray the dawn prayer, then there is no prayer until the sun rises and stands the height of a spear or two spears; then prayer is accepted until the shadow stands the height of a spear; then there is no prayer until the sun passes its zenith; then prayer is accepted until you pray the afternoon prayer; then there is no prayer until the sun sets. And when the servant performs ablution and washes his hands, his sins fall away from between his hands; and when he washes his face, his sins fall away from his face; and when he washes his forearms, his sins fall away from his forearms; and when he washes his feet, his sins fall away from his feet." Shu'bah said: he did not mention the wiping of the head. "And whichever man frees a Muslim man, it will be his ransom from the Fire, limb repaid for limb of his own limbs; and whichever Muslim man frees two Muslim women, they will be his ransom from the Fire, two of their limbs repaid for each limb of his; and whichever Muslim woman frees a Muslim woman, it will be her ransom from the Fire, limb repaid for limb of her own limbs."
