Surayj ibn al-Nu'man told us; Aws ibn Abdullah Abu Muqatil al-Saluli told me, he said: Burayd ibn Abi Maryam told me, from his father Malik ibn Rabi'a, that he heard the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, saying: "O Allah, forgive those who shave their heads, O Allah, forgive those who shave their heads." A man among the people said: "And those who shorten their hair." The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said, the third or fourth time: "And those who shorten their hair." Then he said: "And I, that day, had my head shaved, and nothing would have pleased me as a substitute for the shaving of my head — not red camels, nor a great prize."
