Abd al-Samad told us; Hammad — meaning Ibn Salama — told us; al-Jurayri told us, from Abu Nadra, that a man among the companions of the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, called Abu Abdullah, was visited by his companions coming to check on him, and he was weeping. They said to him: "What makes you weep? Did the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, not say to you: 'Trim your mustache, then leave it until you meet me'?" He said: "Yes indeed, but I heard the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, say: 'Allah, Mighty and Sublime, took a handful with His right hand, and another with His other hand, and said: This is for this, and this is for this,' and I do not care — but I do not know in which of the two handfuls I am."
