Waki' narrated to us: Sufyan narrated to us, from his father, from Abaya b. Rifa'a, from his grandfather Rafi' b. Khadij, who said: "We were with the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) at Dhu al-Hulayfa of Tihama, and we obtained sheep and camels." He said: "The people hastened and set the cooking pots boiling with them. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) came and ordered them overturned, then said: 'The equivalent of ten sheep for one camel.'" He said: "Then a camel bolted, and there was among the people only a little cavalry, so a man shot it with an arrow and it was restrained thereby. The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: 'These animals have unruly ones like the unruly ones among wild game; so whatever of them overwhelms you, do that to it.'" He said: Rafi' b. Khadij said: "We hope, yet we fear, that we will meet the enemy tomorrow and have no knives with us - shall we then slaughter with reed?" He said: "Hasten it, or make it flow - whatever causes the blood to flow, and Allah's name is mentioned over it, eat it, except the tooth and the claw, and I will tell you about that: as for the tooth, it is bone, and as for the claw, it is the knife of the Abyssinians."
