Rawh told us, saying: Hisham ibn Abi Abdullah told us, from Qatadah, from Salim ibn Abi al-Ja'd, from Ma'dan ibn Abi Talhah, from Abu Najih al-Sulami, who said: We laid siege with the Prophet of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, to the fortress of Ta'if, and I heard the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, say: "Whoever's arrow reaches (the enemy), he has a rank in Paradise." He said: I reached that day sixteen arrows (shot). And I heard the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, say: "Whoever shoots an arrow in the way of Allah, Mighty and Majestic, it is the equivalent of freeing a slave; and whoever turns gray with a gray hair in the way of Allah, it will be a light for him on the Day of Resurrection; and any Muslim man who frees a Muslim man, Allah, Mighty and Majestic, will make, for every bone of his (the master's) bones, a bone of his freed slave's bones as a ransom from the Fire; and any Muslim woman who frees a Muslim woman, Allah, Mighty and Majestic, will make, for every bone of hers, a bone of her freed slave-woman's bones as a ransom from the Fire."
