Waki' told us: Usamah ibn Zayd told us, from Muhammad ibn Ka'b al-Qurazi, who said: Mu'awiyah said on the pulpit: O Allah, none can withhold what You give, and none can give what You withhold, and the fortune of the fortunate does not avail him against You. Whomever Allah intends good for, He gives him understanding of the religion. I heard these words from the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, on this very pulpit.
