قَالَ قَرَأْتُ عَلَى عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنِ مَهْدِيٍّ حَدَّثَنَا مَالِكٌ وحَدَّثَنَا رَوْحٌ قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا مَالِكٌ يَعْنِي ابْنَ أَنَسٍ عَنْ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ أَبِي بَكْرِ بْنِ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ عَمْرِو بْنِ حَزْمٍ عَنْ عَبْدِ الْمَلِكِ بْنِ أَبِي بَكْرِ بْنِ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنِ الْحَارِثِ بْنِ هِشَامٍ عَنْ خَلَّادِ بْنِ السَّائِبِ الْأَنْصَارِيِّ عَنْ أَبِيهِ أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ قَالَ أَتَانِي جِبْرِيلُ عَلَيْهِ السَّلَام فَقَالَ أَنْ آمُرَ أَصْحَابِي أَوْ مَنْ مَعِي أَنْ يَرْفَعُوا أَصْوَاتَهُمْ بِالتَّلْبِيَةِ أَوْ بِالْإِهْلَالِ يُرِيدُ أَحَدَهُمَا.

He said: I read to Abd al-Rahman ibn Mahdi: Malik told us -- and Rawh told us, saying: Malik, that is Ibn Anas, told us -- from Abdullah ibn Abi Bakr ibn Muhammad ibn Amr ibn Hazm, from Abd al-Malik ibn Abi Bakr ibn Abd al-Rahman ibn al-Harith ibn Hisham, from Khallad ibn al-Sa'ib al-Ansari, from his father, that the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said: Gabriel, peace be upon him, came to me and said that I should command my companions, or those who are with me, to raise their voices with the talbiyah -- or with the ihlal, meaning one of the two.
