He said: 'Affan narrated to us, who said: Wuhayb narrated to us: 'Amr ibn Yahya narrated to us, from 'Abbad ibn Tamim, from 'Abdullah ibn Zayd ibn 'Asim, who said: When Allah granted His Messenger the spoils on the day of Hunayn, whatever He granted, he divided them among the people, among those whose hearts were to be reconciled, and he did not divide anything for the Ansar nor give them anything, so they felt aggrieved that they had not received what the others had received. So he addressed them, saying: "O assembly of the Ansar, did I not find you astray, and Allah guided you through me? And you were scattered, and Allah gathered you through me? And you were poor, and Allah enriched you through me?" Every time he said something, they would say: "Allah and His Messenger are more gracious." He said: "What prevents you from answering me?" They said: "Allah and His Messenger are more gracious." He said: "If you wished, you could have said: 'You came to us in such-and-such state...' Are you not content that the people go away with sheep and camels while you go away with the Messenger of Allah to your homes? Were it not for the emigration, I would be one of the Ansar. If the people were to travel a valley or a mountain pass, I would travel the valley and mountain pass of the Ansar. The Ansar are an inner garment [close to me], and the rest of the people are an outer garment. Indeed, you will encounter after me a preference [of others over you], so be patient until you meet me at the Basin."
