قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ الصَّمَدِ قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا أَبِي حَدَّثَنَا أَيُّوبُ عَنْ حُمَيْدٍ عَنْ أَبِي الدَّهْمَاءِ عَنْ هِشَامِ بْنِ عَامِرٍ قَالَ شَكَوْا إِلَى النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ مَا بِهِمْ مِنْ الْقَرْحِ فَقَالَ احْفِرُوا وَأَحْسِنُوا وَأَوْسِعُوا وَادْفِنُوا الِاثْنَيْنِ وَالثَّلَاثَةَ فِي الْقَبْرِ وَقَدِّمُوا أَكْثَرَهُمْ قُرْآنًا فَمَاتَ أَبِي فَقُدِّمَ بَيْنَ يَدَيْ رَجُلَيْنِ حَدَّثَنَا وَهْبُ بْنُ جَرِيرٍ قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا أَبِي قَالَ سَمِعْتُ حُمَيْدَ بْنَ هِلَالٍ يُحَدِّثُ عَنْ سَعْدِ بْنِ هِشَامٍ عَنْ أَبِيهِ هِشَامِ بْنِ عَامِرٍ قَالَ لَمَّا كَانَ يَوْمُ أُحُدٍ فَذَكَرَ الْحَدِيثَ قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا عَفَّانُ قَالَ سَمِعْتُ جَرِيرَ بْنَ حَازِمٍ يُحَدِّثُ هَذَا الْحَدِيثَ عَنْ حُمَيْدِ بْنِ هِلَالٍ وَزَادَ فِيهِ عَنْ سَعْدِ بْنِ هِشَامٍ وَزَادَ فِيهِ وَأَعْمِقُوا.

He said: 'Abd al-Samad told us: My father told us: Ayyub told us, from Humayd, from Abu al-Dahma, from Hisham ibn 'Amir, who said: They complained to the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, of the wounds afflicting them, so he said: Dig, do well, and make the graves wide, and bury two or three men in one grave, putting forward whichever of them has the most Qur'an. My father then died, and he was put forward ahead of two men. Wahb ibn Jarir told us: My father told us: I heard Humayd ibn Hilal narrating from Sa'd ibn Hisham, from his father Hisham ibn 'Amir, who said: When the Day of Uhud came — and he mentioned the hadith. 'Affan told us: I heard Jarir ibn Hazim narrating this hadith from Humayd ibn Hilal, and he added in it 'from Sa'd ibn Hisham,' and he added in it: and make them deep.
