حَدَّثَنَا يَحْيَى بْنُ سَعِيدٍ حَدَّثَنَا شُعْبَةُ قَالَ أَخْبَرَنِي خُبَيْبُ بْنُ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ عَنْ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنِ مَسْعُودِ بْنِ نِيَارٍ قَالَ أَتَانَا سَهْلُ بْنُ أَبِي حَثْمَةَ فِي مَسْجِدِنَا فَقَالَ قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ إِذَا خَرَصْتُمْ فَخُذُوا وَدَعُوا دَعُوا الثُّلُثَ فَإِنْ لَمْ تَجُدُّوا أَوْ تَدَعُوا فَالرُّبُعَ.

Yahya ibn Sa'id told us, Shu'bah told us, he said: Khubayb ibn 'Abd al-Rahman informed me, from 'Abd al-Rahman ibn Mas'ud ibn Niyar, who said: Sahl ibn Abi Hathmah came to us in our mosque and said: The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said, "When you estimate, take and leave — leave a third; and if you do not gather it in or leave it, then a fourth."
