Abd al-Rahman told us, from Sufyan, from Sa'd, from Abdullah or Abd al-Rahman ibn Ka'b ibn Malik - Abd al-Rahman said the uncertainty is Sufyan's - from his father, who said: The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said: "The parable of the believer is like a fresh, tender shoot of crop: the winds bend it, straightening it at times and flattening it at others, until his appointed time comes. And the parable of the disbeliever is like the cedar tree, firmly rooted, unmoved by anything, until it is uprooted all at once" - or "its uprooting comes all at once" - Abd al-Rahman was uncertain of the exact wording.
