Amir ibn Rabi'ah and Sahl ibn Hunayf went out intending to bathe. They went looking for a secluded spot. Amir removed a woolen cloak he was wearing, and I looked at him and struck him with my evil eye. He went down to the water to bathe, and I heard a commotion in the water. I came to him and called him three times, but he did not answer. So I went to the Prophet (peace be upon him) and told him. He came walking and waded into the water — I can still see the whiteness of his shins. He struck his chest with his hand and said: 'O Allah, remove from him its heat, its cold, and its pain.' He stood up, and the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) said: 'When one of you sees something that pleases him in his brother, himself, or his wealth, let him invoke blessings upon it, for the evil eye is real.'
