Rawh told us: Zakariyya ibn Ishaq told us: Amr ibn Abi Sufyan told me: Muslim ibn Shu'bah told me that Ibn Alqamah appointed his father over the tax-collectorship of his people. Muslim said: He sent me to collect zakat among a group of my people. He said: I went out until I came to a shaykh called Si'r in one of the mountain passes. I said: "My father has sent me to you so that you give me the zakat on your sheep." He said: "O son of my brother, what manner do you take?" I said: "We take the best we find." The shaykh said: "I was in one of these mountain passes with sheep of mine when two men riding double on a camel came to me and said: 'We are the two messengers of the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, sent to you so that you give us the zakat on your sheep.' I said: 'And what is it?' They said: 'A sheep.' So I went to a sheep whose place I knew, full of milk, or full of milk and fat, and brought it out to them. They said: 'This is a shafi', and the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, has forbidden us to take a shafi' - and the shafi' is the one carrying young in her belly.' I said: 'What then do you take?' They said: 'A young kid, or a yearling, or a two-year-old.' So he brought out to them a young kid. They said: 'Give it to us,' so they took hold of it and placed it with them on their camel."
