حَدَّثَنَا زَيْدُ بْنُ الْحُبَابِ حَدَّثَنِي عَبْدُ الْمَلِكِ بْنُ الرَّبِيعِ بْنِ سَبْرَةَ الْجُهَنِيُّ عَنْ أَبِيهِ عَنْ جَدِّهِ قَالَ قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ إِذَا بَلَغَ الْغُلَامُ سَبْعَ سِنِينَ أُمِرَ بِالصَّلَاةِ فَإِذَا بَلَغَ عَشْرًا ضُرِبَ عَلَيْهَا.

Zayd ibn al-Hubab told us: Abd al-Malik ibn al-Rabi ibn Sabrah al-Juhani told me, from his father, from his grandfather, who said: The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said, "When a boy reaches seven years of age, he is to be commanded to pray, and when he reaches ten, he is to be disciplined for [neglecting] it."
