Muhammad ibn Ja'far told us, Sa'id — that is, Ibn Abi Arubah — told us, from Qatadah, from Ata, from Tariq ibn Muraqqa', from Safwan ibn Umayyah, that a man stole his cloak, and he brought him up before the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, who ordered that his hand be cut off. He said, "O Messenger of Allah, I have already pardoned him for it." He said, "Then why was this not done before you brought him to me, O Abu Wahb?" So the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, cut off his hand.
