Yazid ibn Harun told us: Humayd informed us, from Anas, that the Messenger of Allah's, peace and blessings be upon him, foot was sprained, so he sat in an upper room of his whose stairway was made of palm trunks, and he had sworn an oath to stay away from his wives for a month. His companions came to visit him, and he led them in prayer sitting down while they stood. When the next prayer time came, he said to them, "Follow your leader: if he prays standing, then pray standing, and if he prays sitting, then pray sitting with him." He said: And he came down from his vow after twenty-nine days. They said, "O Messenger of Allah, you swore an oath for a month!" He said, "The month is sometimes twenty-nine days."
