Mu'ammal told us: Hammad told us, from Thabit, from Anas, that 'Itban ibn Malik lost his eyesight, and he said, "O Messenger of Allah, if you came and prayed in my house" — or he said, "in my dwelling" — "I would take the place where you prayed as a place of prayer." So the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, came and prayed in his house — or, in his dwelling — and the people of 'Itban gathered around the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him. He said: They mentioned Malik ibn al-Dukhshum, and they said, "O Messenger of Allah, he is such-and-such," hinting at hypocrisy. The Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, said, "Does he not testify that there is no god but Allah and that I am the Messenger of Allah?" They said, "Yes indeed." He said, "By the One in whose hand is my soul, no servant sincerely says it but that the Fire is forbidden to him."
