Abd al-Razzaq told us, Ma'mar told us, from Abu Uthman, from Anas, who said: When the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, married Zaynab, Umm Sulaym sent him a dish of hays in a stone bowl. Anas said: The Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, said, "Go and invite whomever you meet." So they began entering, eating, and leaving. The Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, placed his hand on the food and supplicated over it, saying what Allah willed him to say, and I did not leave anyone I met without inviting him. So they ate until they were full, and left; but a group of them remained, and prolonged their conversation with him, and the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, became too shy from them to say anything to them, so he went out and left them in the house. Then Allah, Mighty and Sublime, revealed: "O you who believe, do not enter the houses of the Prophet except when you are permitted, for a meal, without awaiting its readiness; but when you are invited, then enter..." until "for your hearts and their hearts."
