Isma'il told us, al-Dastuwa'i told us, Yahya ibn Abi Kathir told us, from Hilal ibn Abi Maymuna, from Ata' ibn Yasar, from Abu Sa'id al-Khudri, who said: "The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, sat on the pulpit, and we sat around him, and he said: 'What I fear for you after me is what will be opened up for you of the flowers and adornment of this world.'" A man said: "'Does good bring evil, O Messenger of Allah?'" So the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, remained silent about him. It was said to him: "'What is the matter with you, speaking to the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, while he does not speak to you?'" He said: "And we saw that revelation was being sent down upon him." He said: "Then he came to, wiping the profuse sweat from himself, and said: 'Where is this questioner?' - and it was as if he had praised him - and said: 'Indeed, good does not bring evil. Indeed, among what the spring rains cause to grow is that which kills, or nearly so, except the eater of green herbage, for it eats until, when its flanks are full, it faces the sun and defecates and urinates, then grazes again. And indeed this wealth is green and sweet, and how excellent a companion it is for the Muslim who gives from it to the orphan, the poor, and the wayfarer' - or as the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said - 'and indeed the one who takes it without its right is like one who eats but is not satisfied, and it will be a witness against him on the Day of Resurrection.'" Surayj told us, Fulayh told us, from Hilal ibn Ali, from Ata' ibn Yasar, from Abu Sa'id al-Khudri, that the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, said on the pulpit one day: "Indeed among what I fear for you," and he mentioned the hadith, and said: "it kills through bloating, or nearly so."
