Ya'qub narrated to us, he said: I heard my father, from Yazid ibn al-Had, that Abdullah ibn Khabbab told him that Abu Sa'id al-Khudri told him that Usayd ibn Hudayr, one night while reciting in his enclosure, his horse became restless, so he recited, then it became restless again, so he recited, then it became restless again. Usayd said: I feared it might trample Yahya — that is, his son — so I got up toward him, and there was something like a canopy above my head, in which were lights like lamps, rising up into the sky until I could no longer see it. He said: I went the next morning to the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, and said, "O Messenger of Allah, last night, in the depths of the night, while I was reciting in my enclosure, my horse became restless." The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said, "Recite, Ibn Hudayr." He said: So I recited, then it became restless again, and the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said, "Recite, Ibn Hudayr." So I recited, then it became restless, and the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said, "Recite, Ibn Hudayr." He said: Then I stopped, and Yahya was near it, and I feared it might trample him, and I saw something like a canopy, in which were lights like lamps, rising up into the sky until I could no longer see it. The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said: "Those were the angels listening to you, and had you continued reciting, the people would have seen it in the morning, unconcealed from them."
