Muhammad ibn Ubayd told us: al-A'mash told us, from Atiyyah al-'Awfi, from Abu Sa'id al-Khudri, who said: The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said, "The wealthy are ruined." They said, "Except those who say..." [He said again], "The wealthy are ruined." They said, "Except those who say..." He said, "The wealthy are ruined," until we feared it had become inevitable [for everyone]. He said, "Except those who spend thus, and thus, and thus" - and few are they.
