Kulthum ibn Jubr said: Ibn al-Zubayr addressed us and said: 'O people of Makkah! It has come to my attention that men of Quraysh are playing a game called backgammon (nardashir).' He was left-handed. He said: 'By Allah! "Indeed, intoxicants, gambling..." [5:90]. And I swear by Allah: any man I catch playing it, I will punish him in his hair and skin, and I will give his belongings to whoever brings him to me.'
