Ḥadīth | Ṭabarānī (الطبراني) tabarani:10123 حَدَّثَنَا أَسْلَمُ بْنُ سَهْلٍ الْوَاسِطِيُّ ثنا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ حَسَّانَ الْبُرْجُلَانِيُّ ثنا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ يَزِيدَ عَنْ جَعْفَرِ بْنِ الْحَارِثِ عَنْ عَاصِمِ بْنِ أَبِي النَّجُودِ عَنْ أَبِي وَائِلٍ عَنْ عَبْدِ اللهِ قَالَ كُنَّا نَتَكَلَّمُ فِي الصَّلَاةِ وَيُسَلِّمُ بَعْضُنَا عَلَى بَعْضٍ وَيُومِئُ أَحَدُنَا لِصَاحِبِهِ بِالْحَاجَةِ فَجِ��ْتُ ذَاتَ يَوْمٍ وَرَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ يُصَلِّي فَسَلَّمْتُ عَلَيْهِ فَلَمْ يَرُدَّ عَلَيَّ فَأَخَذَنِي مَا قَدُمَ وَمَا حَدُثَ فَلَمَّا فَرَغَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ قَالَ «إِنَّ اللهَ يُحْدِثُ مِنْ أَمْرِهِ مَا يَشَاءُ وَقَدْ أَحْدَثَ أَنْ لَا تَكَلَّمُوا فِي الصَّلَاةِ»
English Translation
'Abdullah said: We used to speak during prayer — greeting one another and gesturing to each other about our needs. One day I came while the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) was praying, and I greeted him but he did not respond. I was overcome with anxiety. When the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) finished, he said: "Indeed, Allah decrees from His command whatever He wills, and He has decreed that you should not speak during prayer."
