Ḥadīth | Ṭabarānī (الطبراني) tabarani:9898 حَدَّثَنَا إِسْحَاقُ بْنُ إِبْرَاهِيمَ الدَّبَرِيُّ عَنْ عَبْدِ الرَّزَّاقِ عَنْ مَعْمَرٍ عَنْ عَاصِمِ بْنِ أَبِي النَّجُودِ عَنْ زِرِّ بْنِ حُبَيْشٍ أَوَ عَنْ شَقِيقِ بْنِ سَلَمَةَ عَنِ ابْنِ مَسْعُودٍ قَالَ كُنَّا نُصَلِّي مَعَ رَسُولِ اللهِ ﷺ فَكَانَ النَّاسُ يَقُولُونَ السَّلَامُ عَلَى اللهِ السَّلَامُ عَلَى جَبْرَائِيلَ السَّلَامُ عَلَى مِيكَائِيلَ السَّلَامُ عَلَى الْمَلَائِكَةِ الْمُقَرَّبِينَ فَقَالَ النَّبِيُّ عَلَيْهِ السَّلَامُ «لَا تَقُولُوا السَّلَامُ عَلَى اللهِ؛ إِنَّ اللهَ هُوَ السَّلَامُ» قَالَ فَعَلَّمَهُمُ التَّشَهُّدَ فَقَالَ قُولُوا التَّحِيَّاتُ لِلَّهِ وَالصَّلَوَاتُ وَالطَّيِّبَاتُ السَّلَامُ عَلَيْكَ أَيُّهَا النَّبِيُّ وَرَحْمَةُ اللهِ وَبَرَكَاتُهُ السَّلَامُ عَلَيْنَا وَعَلَى عِبَادِ اللهِ الصَّالِحِينَ أَشْهَدُ أَنْ لَا إِلَهَ إِلَّا اللهُ وَأَشْهَدُ أَنَّ مُحَمَّدًا عَبْدُهُ وَرَسُولُهُ
English Translation
Ibn Mas'ud said: We used to pray with the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) and the people would say: 'Peace be upon Allah, peace be upon Jibra'il, peace be upon Mika'il, peace be upon the angels brought near.' The Prophet (peace be upon him) said: 'Do not say peace be upon Allah; indeed Allah is al-Salam.' He then taught them the tashahhud, saying: 'Say: All greetings, prayers, and pure words are for Allah. Peace be upon you, O Prophet, and the mercy of Allah and His blessings. Peace be upon us and upon the righteous servants of Allah. I bear witness that there is no god but Allah, and I bear witness that Muhammad is His servant and messenger.'
