Ḥadīth | Ṭabarānī (الطبراني) tabarani:9886 حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ النَّضْرِ الْأَزْدِيُّ ثنا مُعَاوِيَةُ بْنُ عَمْرٍو ثنا زَائِدَةُ عَنِ الْأَعْمَشِ عَنْ شَقِيقٍ عَنْ عَبْدِ اللهِ قَالَ كُنَّا إِذَا قَعَدْنَا فِي الصَّلَاةِ قُلْنَا السَّلَامُ عَلَى اللهِ السَّلَامُ عَلَيْنَا مِنْ رَبِّنَا السَّلَامُ عَلَى جِبْرِيلَ وَمِيكَائِيلَ السَّلَامُ عَلَى فُلَانٍ فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ إِنَّ اللهَ هُوَ السَّلَامُ إِذَا قَعَدْتُمْ فِي الصَّلَاةِ فَقُولُوا التَّحِيَّاتُ لِلَّهِ وَالصَّلَوَاتُ وَالطَّيِّبَاتُ السَّلَامُ عَلَيْكَ أَيُّهَا النَّبِيُّ وَرَحْمَةُ اللهِ وَبَرَكَاتُهُ السَّلَامُ عَلَيْنَا وَعَلَى عِبَادِ اللهِ الصَّالِحِينَ فَإِذَا قَالَ ذَلِكَ أَصَابَتْ كُلَّ عَبْدٍ صَالِحٍ فِي السَّمَاءِ أَوَ فِي الْأَرْضِ أَشْهَدُ أَنْ لَا إِلَهَ إِلَّا اللهُ وَأَشْهَدُ أَنَّ مُحَمَّدًا عَبْدُهُ وَرَسُولُهُ ثُمَّ يَتَخَيَّرُ مِنَ الْكَلَامِ مَا شَاءَ
English Translation
Abdullah said: When we used to sit in prayer, we would say: 'Peace be upon Allah, peace be upon us from our Lord, peace be upon Jibril and Mika'il, peace be upon so-and-so.' The Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) said: 'Indeed Allah is al-Salam. When you sit in prayer, say: All greetings, prayers, and pure words are for Allah. Peace be upon you, O Prophet, and the mercy of Allah and His blessings. Peace be upon us and upon the righteous servants of Allah. For when he says that, it reaches every righteous servant in the heavens and the earth. I bear witness that there is no god but Allah, and I bear witness that Muhammad is His servant and messenger. Then let him choose whatever supplication he wishes.'
