English Translation
A man came to Ibn Mas'ud and said: 'I had a slave and I freed him, making him a sa'ibah [free in the way of Allah].' Abdullah said: 'The people of Islam do not make sa'ibah. That was only done by the people of Jahiliyyah. You are the patron of his blessing and the most entitled to his inheritance. If you feel uneasy about anything, show it to us and we will place it in the public treasury.'
